How does the DPF filter work?
A dpf filter works by getting hot enough that it collects soot particles in the exhaust to stop them exiting out the vehicle. The beauty of a dpf filter is that it can regenerate and clean itself, meaning that in most cases there is no need for the filter to be taken out and purged or cleaned. This process can only occur though if you take your car on long journeys regularly; being limited to short journeys can mean that your dpf filter does not reach sufficiently hot temperatures in order to perform a successful regeneration. If your dpf filter does not properly regenerate it can become blocked which means that you will need to either clean your dpf filter or have it replaced.

Cleaning the DPF filter is the preferred DPF solution.
